Communications and Engagement Manager (Fixed Term 18 months)

The Role

In this role you will lead a team that will develop and implement Kaipara District Council's Internal and External Communication Strategy in line with our organisational culture and strategic framework. You, with the support of your team, will ensure that we engage with our community and key stakeholders in a meaningful way regarding council activities.

About You

To be considered, we seek candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Degree level qualification in Communications, marketing or equivalent
  • Experience in communication management at a senior level
  • Strong experience in working with the media
  • An understanding of local government or public body communication requirements
  • Experience in developing and using digital communications and communications technology
  • Knowledge of managing corporate identify and branding for complex organisations
  • At least 5-7 years' experience managing teams and in a senior role
  • Strong and demonstrable leadership skills
  • Proven ability to set and meet appropriate standards and deadlines
  • Demonstration of a customer focus though proven ability to work with other people
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of the Treaty of Waitangi and partnerships with Maori
  • Strong strategic approach to business planning and problem solving
  • Mentoring, leadership qualities
  • Attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
