Animal & Compliance Services Officer

About the Role

In this permanent, full-time role, you'll handle everything from managing dog-related concerns to addressing wandering livestock and compliance issues. With a focus on education, enforcement, and investigation, you'll help create a safer, more responsible environment for everyone.

What you'll be doing

  • Educating the community on animal management and promoting compliance with legislation.
  • Investigating dog attacks by gathering evidence and interviewing involved parties.
  • Preparing legal files for prosecution and representing Council in court when required.
  • Maintaining accurate records and effectively managing workload.
  • Monitoring both sides of the Kaipara District, working closely with communities to ensure safety.

This role includes a rotating 7-day roster with after-hours on-call shifts. A company vehicle is provided for district-wide responsibilities.

What we're looking for

  • Experience in a regulatory role, handling compliance matters involving dogs, stock, and enforcement.
  • Strong understanding of the Dog Control Act 1996, Stock Impounding Act 1955, and relevant bylaws.
  • Proven ability to manage investigations and enforce legislation effectively.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • A current first aid certificate and full New Zealand driver's licence.
  • Bonus: National Certificate in Compliance and Regulatory Control (Animal Control).
