  • Competitive salary, mobile and laptop
  • Flexible work-from-home options available

  • Full-time permanent role

Are you already working in commercial property, land transactions or acquisitions and looking for a role where your expertise can have visible community impact?

Kaipara District Council is seeking an experienced Commercial Advisor to support the management of Council's property and commercial activities. This is a meaningful portfolio for someone who understands property legislation, commercial risk and structured decision-making, and is ready to apply that capability in a public sector environment.

The Opportunity

As Commercial Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting Council's commercial property portfolio and providing advice across the organisation on land transactions, leases and legislative requirements.

Your work will include coordinating commercial agreements, progressing land sales and acquisitions, reviewing policy and frameworks to ensure compliance, and preparing clear, well structured reports that enable informed decision-making.

You'll also contribute to oversight of Council's forestry portfolio, supporting planning and harvest coordination.

This is a role where commercial judgement, legislative confidence and attention to detail are essential, and where your expertise directly supports responsible stewardship of public assets.

About You

You're likely already operating in:

  • Commercial property management
  • Land sales or acquisitions
  • A property-focused role within local or central government
  • A private sector property environment

You bring practical experience applying relevant legislation within real-world commercial settings. You are confident navigating frameworks, understanding risk, and balancing commercial outcomes with regulatory requirements.

You're comfortable working across stakeholders, preparing structured documentation and advising decision-makers with clarity and accuracy.

Experience working with legislation such as the Local Government Act, Reserves Act or Public Works Act, along with a relevant tertiary qualification will be highly regarded. However your practical experience and applied capability are what matter most.

Why Make the Move?

This role offers the opportunity to take your existing commercial property expertise and apply it in a portfolio that shapes the future of a growing district. You'll gain exposure to a broad range of transactions and strategic property matters, while working within a collaborative and values-driven organisation.

Flexible Working

We offer a supportive hybrid working arrangement that includes time spent in our office locations in Mangawhai or Dargaville, balanced with the flexibility to work from home.

At Kaipara District Council, you'll join a team committed to building a vibrant and thriving Kaipara, as well as enjoying:

  • One paid volunteer day per year
  • Discounted health insurance, banking and retail benefits
  • Free EAP services
  • Five weeks annual leave after five years of service

If you're looking for a move that broadens your commercial exposure while offering purpose, stability and influence, this could be your next step.
