Assistant Librarian

Mangawhai Library | Part-time (30 hours per week)

We're looking for an Assistant Librarian to join our Mangawhai Library team. This is a varied role where you'll help connect people with library services, support community programmes and events, assist with technology and digital resources, and contribute to the day-to-day running of the library.

  • Part-time role, 30 hours per week
  • Based at Mangawhai Library
  • Rostered across five days, including Saturdays

About the opportunity

As an Assistant Librarian, you'll provide friendly and welcoming frontline customer service while helping people make the most of the library's services and resources. You'll assist customers with information requests, support the use of library technology and digital services, help deliver programmes and events and contribute to maintaining our library collections.

This is a hands-on role that combines customer service, administration, technology support and library operations. No two days are quite the same, making it a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and working with people.

About you

You'll be passionate about customer service and enjoy helping people from all walks of life.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Experience in a library, customer service, or similar public-facing environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence using computers and digital technology
  • Good problem-solving and information-finding skills
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to work
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • A library qualification, or equivalent experience, would be an advantage.
